Bath
Located in the southwest of England, Bath is a city in the county of Somerset. In 2001, the city has a population of 83,992 living within an area of 29km2. Bath is a historic Roman and Georgian spa city established in approximately AD43.
The City of Bath is a historical centre with many theatres, museums, festivals and other cultural attractions. In 1987, the city was added to UNESCO’s list of World Heritage Sites in recognition of its ‘outstanding universal values’.
The municipal government of Bath released its Sustainable Community Strategy (SCS) in 2010. A significant component of the SCS is Bath’s plan to address the causes and effects of climate change through lower carbon lifestyles. The city seeks to adopt environmentally friendly practices, such as making buildings more energy efficient, increasing the use of renewable energy, reducing car use and growing more local food.
