Yiyang City

Yiyang City is situated at the junction of the Zijiang River, Dongting Lake and the Yangtze River in the Hunan province. The city had a population of 4,313,084 in 2010 within an area of 12,144 km².

Yiyang City is well known for its agriculture and, in particular, the production of bamboo, ramie, reed and rice. The abundance of rivers and lakes in the region support 114 fish species, including rare varieties of whitebait, eel and sturgeon.

Recently, Yiyang City has invested in modern infrastructure and technology in order to improve the city’s economic, social and environmental sustainability. Projects related to this broad aim include the High-Tech Park project, the opening of the Chaoyang International Experimental School, the water conservation project in relation to the Zijiang River and the formation of a special development and construction group, headed by the Mayor and the Party Committee Secretary.
