Acerra
Acerra is a city and commune in the Province of Naples in southern Italy. It is situated on the Agro Acerrano plain in the Campania district and had a population of just over 55,000 in 2009.
Accera is one of the oldest cities in the Campania region, which currently faces significant challenges in relation to the area’s waste management crisis.
As part of the solution to Campania’s highly publicised waste management problem, a Waste to Energy Plant was recently constructed in Acerra. The city’s Waste to Energy Plant began operating in 2009 and is one of the most important waste disposal centres in Europe. It is capable of disposing of 600,000 tonnes of urban waste annually and converting it into approximately 600 kilowatt hours of electricity.
