Veracruz is a major port city and municipality in eastern Mexico situated on a significant share of the coastline of the Gulf of Mexico. In 2010, there were 428,323 residents of the Veracruz Municipality.

The City of Veracruz is Mexico’s oldest and largest port. The port of Veracruz is an economic centre and has also contributed to the city’s status as a melting pot of indigenous, Spanish and Afro-Cuban cultures.

The city is increasingly seeking to promote ecotourism, which is aimed at creating improved economic opportunities for the local population whilst preserving the natural environment of the Veracruz region.
