Kawasaki
Kawasaki is a city located between Tokyo and Yokohama in the Kanagawa Prefecture of Japan. It is the 9th most populated city in the country with 1,429,173 inhabitants. The city is situated on a stretch of land on the south bank of the Tama River, which is approximately 50 kilometres from Japan’s major international gateway, the Narita International Airport.
Kawasaki forms part of the Keihin industrial area, which is one of the largest industrial areas in Japan. The city is also home to Kawasaki Daishi, the second most visited temple in the Kanto region.
In 1997, Kawasaki was one of the first cities to be approved as an Eco Town under the Japanese government’s Eco-Town Policy. The two key aims of Kawasaki’s Eco Town Plan were: (1) to facilitate companies operating in the region to develop resources for recycling and to develop new equipment to enable recycling initiatives; and (2) to construct the Kawasaki Zero Emissions Industrial Park, which serves as a waste and recycling processing centre.
