Vrbas

Vrbas

Vrbas is a city and municipality located in the northern region of landlocked Serbia. In 2002, 25,887 people lived in the city, whilst the municipality was home to 45,839 residents.

Vrbas is the first municipality from Serbia to formally join the UN Global Compact.

The City of Vbras is committed to the remediation of the Grand Backa Canal, an environmental ‘hot spot’ and one of the most polluted waterways in Europe. The Western Balkans Environmental Programme refers to Vbras’ remediation strategy as a potential ‘lighthouse project’ for other environmental hot spots around the globe due to its multi-partnership approach.
