Budapest

Budapest, the capital of Hungary, is located in the country’s centre. It measures 25 kilometres north-south and 29 kilometres east-west and has a population of approximately 1,750,000. The Danube river runs through the middle of the city.

Budapest is often referred to as one of the most beautiful cities in Europe and is home to an extensive World Heritage Site. Originally established by Celts, the city has been also been ruled by Romans and Monguls and was the second capital city of Austria-Hungary until its dissolution in 1918. Budapest has been the focal point of several revolutions and civil unrests over the centuries. The city’s Millenium Underground Railway is the second oldest in the world. Budapest is now a financial hub of Europe and attracts 2.7 million tourists every year.
