Asker is a commune of the Kingdom of Norway, located twenty-five kilometres south-west of the capital city, Oslo. A large proportion of Asker’s 55,000 residents are transient and live between Asker, neighbouring communes and the wider region.

Although the geography is principally rural, the urban expansion of nearby Oslo has influenced Asker’s own urbanization. Established rail linkages and growing interest from business and related technology hubs to develop offices in Asker have provided many workers with an alternative employment centre.

A technologically advanced city, Asker primarily hosts oil related businesses, shipping, trade and commercial services. Asker is also a cultural hub and has a large volunteer sector. More than half of the Asker municipality’s population is registered with volunteer organisations.
