Hermosillo
Hermosillo is a city and municipality located in the north western state of Sonora in Mexico. The City of Hermosillo is the capital of Sonora and a key economic centre, particularly in the industrial and manufacturing sectors. In 2005, Hermosillo’s population was 641,791.
The City of Hermosillo is situated near the Cerro de la Campana mountain in the Sonoran Desert plains. The city hosts one of the most important cultural event in northwest Mexico, the Dr. Alfonso Ortiz Tirado Festival, where artistic representatives from Mexico and around the world congregate to exhibit and perform.
A significant step taken by the Hermosillo Municipality towards implementing sustainable practices is evidenced by the decentralisation of urban water management. This project seeks to make better use of science related to climate change and to increase public participation in water management.
