Los Angeles
Los Ángeles is the capital of the province Biobío, in the greater region of Region VIII. Located in the centre-south of Chile, it is situated between the Laja and Biobío rivers. As of 2002, the city’s population was 166,556 inhabitants within an area of 1,748.2 km2.
The Los Ángeles economy is powered by raw wood production and logging from the Biobío region. These natural resources lead many to call Los Ángeles ‘the gateway to the south’, as it is where Chile begins to show the greener characteristics of the south, including the Laguna del Laja National Park, the Laja water falls, and the Nahuelbuta National Park.
